Grade 6 Language Arts

Today in LA we started discussing similes and metaphors.  Please ask your child what these are and ask them to give you an example of each.

Grade 6M Social Studies

Just a reminder 6M has a Social Studies Iroquois quiz Friday.  Please prepare yourself by using your study guide, notes and assignments from this unit.

6M Social Studies

Today in Social Studies we continued to discuss the Iroquois Confederacy.  The students will be having a quiz this Friday.  Therefore, please ensure that they are looking over their notes Wednesday and Thursday.

Grade 6 Religion

6W make sure you show your appreciation to someone in your life that does not have to be there.  For example a coach.  You will be journaling about it this week.

Grade 6 LA

Today in Language Arts we continued or started (depending on what class you are in) talking about predicting.  Please make sure that you help your child understand how important this skill is by pointing out all the places we use predictions.  For instance, we use predictions when we are going shopping, doing math, surfing, playing video games etc. but don't always realize it.  Please make sure to point it out to your child.

Grade 6 LA Today

April is poetry month so today we started a mini unit about poetry.  Students are writing an "I Am" poem. 

6W rough copy and good copy due tomorrow Tuesday April 24th
6G/6M rough copy and good copy due Wednesday April 25th

Please make sure to bring pencil crayons, glue, fine tip pens or markers for your good copies.

Grade 6 Social Studies

In Social Studies we are completing the Ancient Athens unit and will be having our unit test tomorrow April 4th.

Please make sure that you study the notes, review, quiz and all other material inorder for you to be properly prepared.

Grade 6 Language Arts

We are starting a story writing unit, the students shared their first stories today and wow, where they ever awesome!!  I am looking forward to reading all of your creative stories throughout this unit.

Please remember to preview the books you have from library today and to make sure you have something to read for over the spring break.

Grade 6 Language Arts

Right now in Language Arts the students are preparing for a debate.

The debate presentations will be done Friday during class.  Please make sure that you have all your props and ideas ready!

6M Social Studies

We are currently learning about Ancient Athens and how democracy came about.  The students are creating comic strips to portray their understanding of the roles of citizens, metics and slaves during this time period.

Grade 6M Social Studies

Today in Social Studies we worked on our Letter to the Minister body paragraphs.  All rough copies are due tomorrow so that we can start with the opening and closing paragraphs on Wednesday.  If you are wondering why your child is writing a letter the the Minister of Education please have them show you the letter Mr. Thomas Lukaszuk sent.  This project is a wonderful way that the young people in our society can become involved in the Provincial Government.


Hoy en Estudios Sociales que trabajamos en nuestra Carta a los párrafos del cuerpo de ministros. Todos los borradores se deben mañana, así que podemos empezar con la apertura y párrafos finales el miércoles. Si usted se está preguntando por qué su hijo está escribiendo una carta del favor del Ministerio de Educación Pídales que le muestren la carta del Sr. Thomas Lukaszuk enviado. Este proyecto es una manera maravillosa de que los jóvenes de nuestra sociedad pueden participar en el Gobierno Provincial.

Grade 6 Language Arts

This week in Language Arts we are continuing to work on the connections reading comprehension strategy.  We are reading the non-fiction book "Ryan and Jimmy and the Well in Africa That Brought Them Together".  One boy, Jimmy, is from Agweo Uganda and the other boy, Ryan, is from Kemptville Ontario.  Today we were talking about the distance between these two places. 

If you can find the distance between Kemptville and Agweo in KM Mrs. Mamer will give you a special prize.

There is no other homework tonight.

Grade 6 Language Arts

Today in Language Arts we continued to work on our Holiday Reports.  These are due tomorrow but the students will have the period to work on them.  They should come tomorrow with their rough copy completely written and ready to have proof read by their peers. 

Hoy en Artes del Lenguaje hemos seguido trabajando en los informes de nuestras vacaciones. Estos son para mañana, pero los estudiantes tendrán el período de trabajo. Ellos deben venir mañana con su borrador escrito completamente y listo para tener la prueba de leer por sus pares.
